Early French Version of Tarot Cards - Le Petit Cartomancien

Early French Version of Tarot Cards - Le Petit Cartomancien

$30.00

This isn't something I usually have at the market, but I found the artwork on these to be beautiful and fascinating! And it 'tis the season. Le Petit Cartomancien was a French set of cards similar, yet different, from tarot cards. These make me want to sit in a cottage with a cup of tea and pretend I know what I'm doing.

This set is 36 cards printed directly from the set by B.P. Grimaud in 1875, which is why I find the artwork so lovely. Each card in this deck is meant to represent someone in one's life. For instance, cards such as marchand (merchant/businessman), une veuve (widow), une brune (a brunette) etc. This deck was used in French Salons to help in navigating the complex, often political relationships that Parisian socialites maintained.

Includes a two piece box for storage and a guide with a list of translations of the card names and meanings, as well as English instructions straight from a translated guidebook on how to read with them.

For more information about them and how exactly to use them, I found this great site:
