Antique French Ironstone Dinner Plates — H.B. & Cie, Choisy-le-Roi, "Louis XIII" Pattern, Set of 4, circa 1863–1920
One of the most prestigious names in all of French faience. One of its most beloved patterns. A set of four 10.5" plates (plus a 5th bonus plate that has a crack, but would make a great display piece) — ready for a table that deserves them.
Founded in 1805 just outside Paris, the Choisy-le-Roi factory rose to national fame under Hippolyte Boulenger from 1863 onward. H.B. & Cie earned medals at the World's Fairs, supplied the iconic white tiles for the Paris Métro in 1889, and produced some of the finest transferware dinner services in French history. The factory closed in 1934 — every piece bearing the H.B. & Cie mark is now a genuine antique.
The Pattern — "Louis XIII" Named in homage to the grandeur of the French monarchy, the "Louis XIII" pattern is among the most sought-after designs from Choisy-le-Roi. Bold, oversized botanical leaves — rendered in deep teal-green transferware — cascade across the wide rim, framed by a delicate inner scrollwork border. The plate body features subtle embossed detailing. It is dramatic without being fussy, and unmistakably French.
